Your manifestation compass

One of the most powerful and important mystical tools that you can ever learn is a very simple, one word exercise:

Why?

Whether you’re looking to manifest a new job, put together a magickal spell, find a romantic partner, learn how to paint, use alchemy to transform something, start a new workout routine, or anything else you may want to change or influence in your life… Ask yourself:

“Why?”

Why do you want a new job? Why do you want to do magick? Why do you want a romantic partner? Why do you want to learn how to paint? Why do you want to transform something? Why do you want to start a new workout routine?

If an answer comes up, such as, “I want a new job to make more money” or “I want to lose weight,” then ask yourself again:ย

ย “Why?”ย

I know, I know, this may seem annoying and redundant ๐Ÿ˜œ But asking this question is one way to practice tracing energy lines at a mystical level.

When we follow the energy lines, we can start to see where we’re going and who (or what) is influencing us. Asking ourselves this simple question is like following a compass to our true destination.

We’re often motivated to do stuff because we “should do it.” The “should” usually comes from social programming or other stories that we agree to. “I should go to school” or “I should eat healthy.” Why should you?

We can also make decisions based out of fear. If we’re doing something because we’re afraid, this is a big red flag. Nearly 100% of the time if we do something out of fear, it’s based on somebody else’s agenda.

By asking ourselves “why?”, we can identify whether any unconscious programs or fears are controlling us.

Removing these unconscious programs and fears makes it easier for us to find our why.  The reason I bring this up is because every mystical work needs a very strong why.

We can’t “willy nilly” or half-ass a mystical project. If we do, generally two things will happen: We risk poor mystical etiquette (e.g. doing magick without knowing why we’re doing it is not a good idea). But also, we risk dropping the mystical work before we can complete it.

We need a strong motivation, a clear why, to start and finish a mystical project. Some works can take days, months, even years to finish. Just like an artist may quickly sketch something to practice a new technique or take decades to finish a masterpiece, having a clear intent behind our work will help us to persevere.

This doesn’t need to be just about mystical works though. Try asking yourself this simple question throughout your daily life and see what comes up ๐Ÿ™‚ you may be surprised where this compass will lead you!

Why “spirits” attract Spirits

an etheric photo of a glass of alcohol with spirits rising from it

If you’re going to listen to any of my advice about mysticism, then I hope you’ll follow this one above all the others.

Do not drink alcohol, consume recreationalย drugs, or operate from a low-frequency state when doing mystical works!

Why is it so important to be sober when doing mysticism?

At best, alcohol and drugs shrink your awareness, change the physiology of your body, and lower your frequency.

At worst, alcohol and drugs can be “open doors” for low-frequency entities, energies, spirits, and other nasty stuff to come in and possess you or feed off your energy. Literally.

In fact, alcoholic spirits (e.g. whiskey, vodka, gin, etc.) originates from alchemy. Alchemists often work with the Three Philosophical Principles–Salt, Sulphur, and Mercury.

An alchemist would ferment an herb or fruit for months or years in order to extract its spirit from the plant’s physical body. The spirit or Mercury is incredibly powerful by itself. But when combined with the plant’s Salt (its physical body) and Sulphur (its essential oils), an alchemist can create very powerful medicine and other alchemical works.

In alchemy, alcoholic spirits were never intended to be consumed recreationally or carelessly. They were respected as a microcosmic expression of the Universal Divine Spirit, the link between Body and Soul.

And the Human Collective knows that “spirits” are indeed Spirits, which is why we see it in pop culture. You may have heard how there are different types of drunkenness depending which alcohol you consume. This video from a TV sitcom sums it up quite well ๐Ÿ˜‚ but to summarize, each plant has different inherent properties, so different Spirits have different affects and effects.

As Inelia Benz often says, “Spirits attract spirits.” In general, it’s a good idea not to drink alcohol or consume drugs. But if you do drink or take drugs and are thinking of quitting, talk to your medical practitioner before doing so.

Another important point is that even if you don’t drink or do drugs, other low-frequencies can impact your mystical works.

If you are in a low-frequency state — fear, anger, addiction to drama, guilt, jealousy, etc. — this will add a negative “color” to your mystical work, which could be hijacked (i.e. nefariously used) by the damaged ego or by dark entities.

So it’s very important to understand that mysticism in itself is NOT a path of enlightenment or ascension.

Doing magick, divination, mediumship, or other mystical crafts does not necessarily raise your personal frequency to a more joyful, loving state.

Mysticism is a tool. And just like how a knife can be used to cook a beautiful meal for your family or be used to kill someone, mysticism is no different.

Are there positive aspects to mysticism? Absolutely. Meditating before a ritual or doing a chant to put you in altered state can be a great way to raise your frequency or expand your awareness. But note that it’s not the magick itself that’s raising your frequency — you are doing that by choosing to meditate or do a chant that expands your awareness.

You can just as easily raise your frequency and expand your awareness by processing your fear because fear is the lowest-frequency state a person can experience on this planet.

To summarize, never drink alcohol or consume drugs before doing magick, divination or any type of mystical work. And make sure you are staying as high-frequency possible, both when you are and are not practicing mysticism.

How to do Elemental Magick ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’ง๐ŸŒฑ

Metatron's Cube

I’ve written about how and why Magick is a cheat code to our reality.

Now I’d like to share with you a powerful technique that you can use to “push” your code, your intent, into your everyday life by conducting a magickal ritual using the Elementals.

This technique can be used for casting spells, creating power objects, alchemy, and a variety of other uses.

First, you need a clear intent about WHY you want to use magick for something. It’s a good idea to only cast magick on yourself so you don’t infringe upon the free will of others. Write down your intent on a piece of paper or type it out so you’re super clear about your intent.  Here are some common intents that we can use in magick:

  • Attracting something into our life (money, love, work, new house, etc.)
  • Repelling something from our life (negativity, low-frequency engagements, physical or emotional toxicity, etc.)
  • Protection (establishing healthy boundaries in our life, putting barriers around our homes, etc.)
  • Increasing something (communication, abundance, psychic awareness, etc.)
  • Decreasing something (psychic noise, addictions, physical pain, limitations we no longer want, etc.)

Now that you have your intent, you need to gather your magickal ingredients.

Youย will need a physical representative of the four elements: fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ air ๐Ÿ’จwater๐Ÿ’ง and earth ๐ŸŒฑ. You can use a candle for fire, incense or a feather for air, a glass or bowl filled with water, and a rock or plant for earth.ย The fifth element, spirit, is you ๐Ÿ™‚ you are the one that connects all the elements together.

You will also need a fifth object to represent your intent. This could be your house, a $100 bill, a piece of artwork, your house, a crystal, etc. It’s best to find an object that matches your intent symbolically.ย ย

Next, place your elements on a table or altar surrounding your object. If you’ve chosen a larger object, like your house or car, then place the table inside of it. The elements will help “charge” the object with your intent.

Now, you will go into an altered state or expansion of awareness. This helps us get out of our small egoic self and into our more natural state. Take a few deep breaths or do a short meditation before you start.

You will now request the power and call in the Elementals to support you. The Elementals are the sentient spirits that animate fire, air, water, and earth elements.

While holding one of the objects that represent fire, air, water, or earth, call in that Elemental to come and assist you. To do this, simply say, “I call the Element of Water to assist me in this ritual.” Do this for all of the elements.

Next, while holding your fifth object of intent (or touching your house or car), visualize your intent or say out loud a clear statement about what its “job” is. The job is your intent.  While holding your object, meditate, chant, pray, or do whatever to help you keep your vibrational frequency high and in an altered state. While doing this, feel the object accepting the intent that you gave it.

When the object feels “done,” you will return the Elementals to where they came from. To do this, thank each element and tell it to leave. You can say, “Thank you Element of Air for assisting me in this ritual, now return to where you came from.” Do this for all four elements. To help symbolize this, allow the candle and incense to burn out, pour the water outside or on a plant, return the rock or feather to its normal location.

Don’t skip this last step ๐Ÿ™‚ keeping the Elementals around longer than intended can cause chaos in your life.

Now your object of intent is ready for use! Put it in a location that feels the most resonant. If it’s for protection or repelling, you can leave it behind a bookshelf or in the corner of a room. If it’s something to attract or increase something, try putting it somewhere where you can see it every day. There’s no wrong or right way to go about this; it will work it’s Magick!

Four Pillars to Covering Your Bases

It’s super important that you get your life together. Why?

It’s much more difficult to be a high-frequency, powerful, capable, and effective mystic if you can’t pay your bills.

Inelia Benz shared during a 2019 retreat that it’s imperative to “cover your bases.” They are:

  1. Shelter
  2. Food
  3. Human contact
  4. Income

Let’s look at each of these from both a practical and mystical perspective.

Shelter – We all need to protect our bodies from the elements. It’s also our natural instinct to claim a space as our own. Whether we’re living each day in a different hotel or paying a 30-year mortgage, we all need a space to call “home.”

Mystically speaking, our home is our power center. It’s where we center and ground ourselves. Our home is one of our core, sacred spaces for doing our mystical works. It’s also much easier to do mystical works if your home is consistent, stable, and high-frequency.

Food – We all need nourishment by replenishing our chi. We replenish much of our chi from our Sun and Gaia. Whether you’re vegan or eat meats, we’re eating other creatures to rejuvenate our bodies with energy. Plants and animals represent different phases of the chi cycle, so it’s really up to you and your physical body which diet works best. There are also records of breatharians and sun-gazers who gain their chi directly from Gaia or the Sun, so it is possible to absorb chi without food. Personally speaking, my body really likes to eat chocolate ice cream and steak, so we’re sticking with that for now ๐Ÿ™‚

Mystically speaking, food is just one way that we need to look after our physical bodies. It’s about responsibility, very similar to looking after a pet. Would you lock your dog in a room for days on end without taking it for walks? Likely not. By having a healthy and strong body, we become much more mystically able and powerful as well.

Human contact – We do not live in isolation. One of the cruelest forms of punishment is solitary confinement because our bodies need intimacy, connection, and physical touch. There’s tons of research out there about babies who do not get enough parasympathetic responses grow up with a ton of problems. So we need community, connection, and physical touch in order to survive. Make friends, hug your family, and collaborate with interesting groups.

Mystically speaking, everything we do involves other people. Although you may not cast a spell over another person, it’s 99% likely that the results of that spell will come through other people. Whether you’re doing manifestation or alchemical works, we need human collaboration to carry it out.

Income – We still find ourselves in the chosen reality where we have to pay to live on the planet. Our income does NOT need to be connected to our chosen “mission.” How we earn income is irrelevant. What DOES matter is getting a source of income that supports us and covers our bases. Whether you’re working at McDonald’s or Google, we need income to support ourselves on the planet at this time. Don’t overcomplicate it.

Mystically speaking, income is a direct representation of our power. It is chi, the ability to do, a tool. Think of all the billionaires on the planet and how quickly they can shape reality. Also, without income, we can incur debt with others. This is a very disempowering energy, so it’s important that we’re gaining income somehow.

As a Mystic, if you’re thriving instead of surviving, then you can spend more time focusing how to use your power.

And imagine what it would be like if we had 100 light-worker billionaires on the planet ๐Ÿ˜€ The world would look much, much different.

So cover your bases. Once your life is in order, your power as a Mystic will continue grow.

Why Magick is a “cheat code” to the Matrix

Tarot cards and candles

Our Reality Matrix is a set of agreements. We as a collective species created these agreements, or a set of “rules,” in order to have a particular type of game on Earth.

Most games wouldn’t be any fun without rules.

I was a game designer for many years and published papers about how games are used as social and learning mechanisms. I’ve also been a huge gamer my whole life, so I know firsthand just how powerful games can be for us and our lives.

Just like in the movie The Matrix, once we see that reality is just code, programs, and rules, it really isn’t much different than a game. And like Neo in the movie, we can learn how to bend or even break these rules. These are called cheat codes in gaming terms.

Every gamer knows about cheat codes and hacks, which can be fun ways to tweak the gaming experience. During the 1990s, it was so common for video games to have cheat codes that gamers would buy magazines (this was before the Internet took off) or special game extensions (Game Genie, anyone?). Why so much fuss for something that seems so trivial and meaningless?

First, games are meaningful and powerful. And second, a lot of people go out of their way to “cheat” so they can can gain an advantage to make the game easier or simply to experience the game in a whole new way. They’re motivated to do so because of the love (or hate) of the game.

Cheat codes in themselves wouldn’t be any fun if there were no rules to a game. In fact, a game wouldn’t even be a game without rules. Imagine what the World Cup would look like if you could play with your hands, or playing Chess with only Queens. Totally changes the dynamic of the game, right?

If you’ve ever heard of card counting in Las Vegas, or inside trading in Wall Street, these are “advantage” cheats. Most of them are illegal in order to keep a fair playing ground for everyone.

Similarly, turning on god mode in Doom or jumping 0.5 times higher in Super Mario are examples of how cheats can completely change the dynamic of the game.

So the energy lines here that we should look at from a Mystical perspective are advantage, god mode, and changing the experience of the game.

Typically we play out the Game of Life through certain rules. Manifestation is one of the core rules that structure our Matrix. According to Inelia Benz, “Manifestation is an agreed co-creation.” In order to manifest something, we have to create very compelling stories that both ourselves and other people will believe and carry it out. This is because about 99% of everything we experience is brought about by other people. This also involves other Matrix rules like free will, disallowing instant manifestation, etc.

But magick is entirely different.

Magick is the cheat code to the Matrix.

Magick is cheat code because:

  1. It can break free will.
  2. It can break the rules of the Matrix.
  3. It can be used for any purpose or intent.

We can use Magick for almost any intent or purpose — for an “advantage,” “god mode,” or even “changing the experience” depending on the intent or how you look at it.

If you’ve ever studied Magick, you may have heard of the “Rule of Threes.” Basically this means that, anything you put out there from a magickal perspective, will come back at you by the power of 3 (not “times” three but “exponent” three). This is a caution to anyone doing Magick. If you’re doing dark works, it’s 100% guaranteed that doing so will open up doors to allow darkness into your life.

But the same is also true for the light and joylightlove. If you cast a spell or do Magick for high-frequency purposes, then high-frequency experiences will come back at you.

Why does this happen? Because Magick “pushes” something into reality. And when something pushes into reality, Reality pushes back.

So why is Magick allowed to happen if it’s possible to infringe upon the free will of others? Generally, free will is built into the rules of engagement of our Matrix. So what’s the deal?

Basically, we also agreed at a collective level to allow these “pushes” in reality to happen. Just like a game designer chose to put in a cheat code, we chose to put in the cheat code of Magick into the Matrix. And just like the game designer, we don’t expect everyone to use or even know about the cheat code. But those who are aware or are guided to find it, will find it.

Just like how Magick finds a way to us if we’re open to it. You wouldn’t be reading these words otherwise ๐Ÿ™‚

So these are some of the mechanics about how Magick relates to the Matrix, and also why it’s a bit different to something like manifestation.

I would have never known about this subtle difference if it wasn’t for Inelia Benz, so I am immensely grateful for her work. Check out her book Are You A Witch? to learn more!

As always, a good rule of thumb is to only do Magick as it relates to YOU and your life. Best not to go messing with other people’s free will. That may open a door for someone or something else to mess with your free will. So don’t worry about it by simply keeping your magick to yourself ๐Ÿ˜‰

Cosmological Influences on Alchemy

Leaves laid out like the color of a rainbow

Alchemy is a Mystical Art that requires patience.

I’ve been studying the alchemical arts for about a year now. Even after a year of rather intense study, let’s just say I haven’t made much progress, and I can totally understand and appreciate how and why it can take decades, if not a lifetime, to pursue and fully become Adept at the alchemical arts.

Why?

Well, it has a lot to do with time.

Not only can it take months, or even years, to complete an alchemical work, the time of year (or month/week/day/hour) when you conduct your work makes a big difference to the work itself. And becoming aware and perceptive of these differences is part of the process. Once you become aware of these influences, you can purposefully use these energies for the work.

So, how exactly, does this work?

Everything in the Universe is connected, yet we belong to various sub-collectives and egregores of connection too, like concentric circles (circles within circles).

For example, our Earth is affected by the magnetic fields of other cosmological bodies, like the planets, the Moon, and our Sun, just to name a few. And we, living on the surface of the Earth, are also impacted by these vibrational frequencies. Our behaviors and magnetic fields also affect the environment and other species. And so the fractal continues in both directions. This is where the origins of Astrology came from.

I was skeptical of Astrology for a long time, until I started to study Alchemy and Magick.

Ever heard of the term “lunatic?” It usually means that someone’s gone crazy, mad, or off-the-wall somehow. The etymology of this word comes from “luna” or Lunar, the alchemical archetype for our Moon. When it’s a Full Moon, usually a lot of strange things start to happen in society. Many police and emergency response teams anecdotally share that violence or ER patients increase during the Full Moon.

As for WHY the Full Moon seemingly has a negative influence is a different topic altogether ๐Ÿ™‚

The magnetic frequencies and orbits of other cosmological bodies literally affect us. As Mystics, we need to take these forces into account before, during, and after we start some kind of Mystical work.

So when doing Alchemical work, we need to track and document how different mystical and physical forces affect us and our work. This could be anything from the atmospheric pressure, amount of humidity, lunar phase, zodiac positions, hormones, sleep, diet, any countless other variables that may affect us.

But once we become aware of these influences, we can utilize them to expand or enhance our Mystical works. And this, in turn, expands our own awareness during the process.

For example, as an Alchemist, I may want to work with herbs to create spagyric tinctures and medicines. I need to plan what herbs to plant in the spring, so that come summertime, I can harvest them and work with fresh material (which is ideal usually) when their life essence is strongest. During the fall, I may extract and store the seeds of the herb to prepare for next year, dry and store herbs, and start to ferment them. And during winter, I can harvest the roots, which are imbued with different energies because the energy the of Northern Hemisphere goes back into the ground during winter time.

When we start to become more aware of the energies that affect us, we in turn can learn how to use these energies to affect us in the ways we want.

Even though I’m an apprentice to Alchemy, planning my work around the seasons is a pretty awesome expansion of awareness. Before I started practicing laboratory alchemy, I only thought of the seasons as most of us probably do–the rolling weather changes, various holidays coming and going, change in food and mood, a year older, etc.

But the Alchemist, Witch, Magician, Shaman, or any other type of Mystic, knows that the cosmological influences on Humanity are quite real and quite profound. Carefully studying these influences will serve you well for any type of Mystical work. But it’s pretty much a requirement for the Alchemist ๐Ÿ™‚
